We understand that one of the most important questions that interested and prospective veteran students have is regarding the GI Bill at NYU Law. We hope the following FAQ can help to clarify some of those questions.

How do I get my GI Bill for NYU Law?

The process of receiving your GI Bill funding for NYU Law is seamless because it is streamlined through the University’s Registrar Office. First, apply for your GI Bill benefits here, upon which you will be mailed a Post-9/11 GI Bill Certificate of Eligibility. Second, submit your Certificate of Eligibility to the Registrar Office here. The Registrar Office will then apply your funding for the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program (if applicable) directly to your student account balance prior to the start of the semester. You will receive an updated Certificate of Eligibility from the VA each semester, and will resubmit your Request for Veteran’s Benefits at the above link prior to each semester.

What is covered by the GI Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program at NYU Law?

If you are eligible for 100% of your GI Bill benefits, the GI Bill combined with the VA’s & NYU Law’s Yellow Ribbon Program contributions will cover the entirety of your student tuition, student health insurance, an annual book stipend (amount depending on your number of enrolled credits), and monthly BAH (basic housing for allowance). You can calculate the monthly rate here (input zip code 10012 and pay grade E-5). Your tuition and health insurance payments will be paid directly to NYU Law. Your book stipend and BAH will be paid to your personal bank account that you have registered with the VA.

When will I receive my BAH payments each month?

You will receive your BAH payments directly from the VA at the end of each month you are enrolled in classes. This means that you should be prepared to pay for your first month of housing prior to receiving your first BAH payments. Also note that BAH is pro-rated based on the number of days that you are enrolled in classes each month. Thus, on months including school-recognized holidays or recesses, you will receive a pro-rated BAH that excludes the holidays and/or recesses.
